How to Fix “No Sound” or Audio Issues on Any Device

Apr 8, 2026

What’s Happening

No sound issues usually come from wrong output device selected (most common), muted system or app-level audio, corrupt or outdated audio drivers, app-specific audio bugs or hardware issues (speakers, headphones, ports). Modern systems often route audio to the last connected device, which is why sound disappears.

Quick Fix

  • Increase volume and make sure device is not muted
  • Disconnect and reconnect headphones / Bluetooth devices
  • Restart your device
  • Play audio from a different app (YouTube, music, etc.)

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Check Volume and Mute Settings (System + App Level)

Windows

  • Click speaker icon (bottom-right)
  • Ensure volume is above 0
  • Right-click → Open Volume Mixer
  • Check individual apps are not muted

Mac

  • Click volume icon (top bar)
  • Increase volume
  • Go to System Settings → Sound
  • Ensure output volume is not muted

Android / iPhone

  • Press volume up button

7. Check Hardware (Speakers / Headphones)

Test:

  • Plug in headphones

Outcomes:
